The History of AC Heritage
Brooklands Motor Company Group was founded in 1989 by Steve Gray, residing in the Brabham Racing Team Buildings in Byfleet. A background as a panel beater on front running Mercedes touring cars, he was used to the fast paced workshop environment with quality being the critical factor. It was no surprise that the business gained traction and had famous racing cobras passing through the doors from the off.
The Snake Bite
Steve’s passion for the Cobra became a reality when he purchased a 427 cobra from the AC factory in Weybridge in 1998. Steve went on to campaign successfully in the Intermarque Championship.
Brooklands Motor Company Group continued to perform outstanding works specializing in British aluminum ‘superleggera’ of Aston Martin’s of the David Brown era and AC’s, The AC factory was coming to a close and we aided the completion of many continuation cobras.
In 2007 after many historical significant AC motorcars had passed through our doors, Steve decided to pursue the AC brand, forming AC heritage in 2007 as a subsidiary of Brooklands Motor Company Group.
In 2012, we moved to the historic motor circuit of Brooklands in the Members Hill Restaurant buildings, home to many AC motoring records and the birthplace of motorsport.
Steve’s son Charlie joined the firm after leaving college in 2015 and has specialised in our sales department and workshop management.
With the acquisition of more highly skilled AC craftsmen, we continued to set the industry standard when it came to the in-house restoration of AC motorcars from all eras. Vintage, Post War and Autokraft. We continue to manufacture and repair motorcars on original tooling from the AC Thames Ditton and Autokraft, whilst referencing our full catalog factory drawings.
Our award-winning restorations are regularly seen on the cover of notable industry magazines, alternatively, they can be found at the front of the grid at Goodwood Revival.
