2012 AC Cobra 289 MK11
Classic Aluminium Contiuation Car
The motorcar offered is a AC heritage division hand crafted Cobra 289. Built as a homage to the 50th Anniversary of the Cobra from 1962 - 2012. It was unveiled at the Geneva International Motor Show in 2012, alongside the AC 378 GT Zagato Prototype. This vehicle has been hand crafted by AC Heritage, located at the birthplace of British Motorsport. Brooklands Motor Circuit in Surrey. The AC Factory craftsman produced the sixteen gauge aluminium body on the original factory wooden body bucks. We furthered the accuracy of this build with reference from our archive of the Thames Ditton factory drawings to achieve an exact MKII 289 to factory specification. In reference to the chassis, it has been manufactured on the factory AC chassis tooling, with the correct three inch diameter main rails and meets all current requirements for historic racing, making it eligible for the FIA HTP approval.
This motorcar is currently in left hand drive specification, at this stage it would be easily reconfigured to right hand drive. The vehicle is identified as COB2620 with an official certificate of authenticity with relevant chassis plate and markings throughout, recognised within the factory ledger, that holds all factory information of AC continuation cobras to date. In addition to this the vehicle can be road registered correctly as an ‘AC’ Motorcar with the DVLA through the approval process.
In the spirit of the production of the Shelby Cobras created in period. Our AC Heritage team have produced a ‘glider’ car that has the body panels fully wrapped.(fitted). The bodywork is produced on an english wheel and has been gas welded together using its parent metal, these traditional skills are unique to period AC Cobra construction. The internal panels all pre fitted including the fibreglass foot boxes and wheel well. The bespoke aluminium panel work (floors, gearbox tunnel boot floors etc) have all been pre fitted and are easily removable for fitment of mechanical components. The suspension is partially assembled for show purposes, and is currently in a rolling form. There is no engine or transmission with this vehicle. The vehicle also features brand new MWS 6 x15 inch stainless steel wire wheels on unused Blockley 205/70V/R15’s, with AC twin eared spinners. The windscreen is period correct from Brasscraft.
A unique opportunity to create a road or race car to exact period specification.
